About the Harriman Trail
The Harriman Trail begins eight miles north of Ketchum at the Sawtooth
National Recreation Area headquarters, and gains a gentle 1,200 feet in
elevation as it winds its way north and west to the Galena Lodge.
The 31km/19.6-mile trail follows the course of the Big Wood River,
alternating through spacious meadows, aspen stands, and lodgepole
forests – always with the majestic Boulder mountain range as a scenic
backdrop.
Activities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, observing birds
and wildlife, and horseback riding. During the winter, the Harriman
Trail is groomed for cross-country skiing (skate and classic).
The Harriman Trail is a
partnership between the Sawtooth National Forest and the Blaine County
Recreation District.
